It makes no sense at all to complain about the ISU being unable to effectively counter it. It's a fast flanker that can easily get behind assault guns and destroy them. Remember that it does have a LOT less armour and health aswell, so survivability is another penalty of it. Having tanks in its own weight class deflect the shots makes sense but not anything lighter. The slow reload is its penalty and maybe it shouldn't have the ability to instapen, but it also shouldn't bounce off non-doctrinal heavies. ISU already have the penalty of a slower reload and, which combined with the hull-mounted gun already is a big penalty for dealing with infantry as is and the AT is abysmal for the price. If you take a hit you should die to it all the same. The weakness with hull-mounted guns is they can be flanked, but you still have to put the effort in to do it. Panther is not an automatics counter to ISU, if it's in a position far enough away where ISU can hit it and it can't rush up and flank, it rightfully SHOULD die to it. Except at long range the Stug wins that engagement.

You could argue then that's any medium is the counter to a Stug.
